ŵyl Gobaith: Digwyddiadau '10

S4C invites you to enjoy a feast of singing and pure entertainment with some of the best singers and musicians from Wales in a special highlights programme from Gŵyl Gobaith 2010 (Festival of Hope).

The highlights programme is part of the S4C events series Digwyddiadau '10. Mari Grug and Morgan Jones will present, bringing the excitement and enjoyment to viewers at home.

Tenor Rhys Meirion, who is originally from Tremadog but now lives in Ruthin, was one of the team who came up with the idea of establishing an annual festival in the area. Rhys is the Festival's Artistic Director and Committee Chairman and plays an integral role in the organising.

During a weekend in June, a group of bright musical stars gathered to perform at the Festival, which is held to raise money for the Hope House Hospice charity.

Among the performers were Ysgol Glanaethwy choir, Shân Cothi, Llŷr Williams, Côr Godre'r Aran, Côr y Fron, David Kempster, the John Quirk band, The London Community Gospel Choir and Rhys Meirion himself.

"Having being a professional tenor for over 10 years and experienced different cultures all over the world, I felt the need for a large-scale cultural festival in north east Wales," explains Rhys.

Rhys adds that the local support for the Festival has been fantastic and he pays tribute to the teams of volunteers who make the event possible.

"We have been overwhelmed by the support we have had from people offering to help the Festival - the volunteers doing the stewarding and the parking, for example. It's been all hands to the pump and it's fantastic to be involved."
