Aled Samuel

Presenter: Aled Samuel

Aled has been interested in photography as far back as he can remember - at the expense of all other subjects.

In an ideal world, he would have become an Architectural Illustrator - one of those people who bring to life, in 3-D form, the architect's bare design, but, due to mathematical limitations, that avenue was not open to him.

Fortunately, he didn't need maths to become a designer, so he bade farewell to Ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen in Bethesda and went initially to Chester Art College, and after completing a year's foundation course, went on to study for a degree in graphic design at Newport Art College.

Following college, he was offered a job as a designer with the Urdd in Aberystwyth, but, as he says, "there's no plaque to commemorate my efforts in the Urdd Head Office." After that came the opportunity to work as a television and radio presenter for the BBC in Welsh and in English for seventeen years.

Following a period of work as a laborour for a local builder, came the call regarding '04Wal'. Aled believes there couldn't have been a better designed series for him to present. Having the opportunity to roam freely around some of the most interesting houses in Wales and beyond. "I have to pinch myself every morning to remind myself how lucky I've been, and continue to be."
