Greece - Baby Grand Hotel

Programme 3

Overview

Right next to City Hall and a short walk from Athens' famous Omonia Square, the Baby Grand is among the city's new generation of boutique hotels. The hotel's intention is to create a sense of New York in Athens. The hotel occupies an eight-storey building with a façade inspired by the neoclassical architecture of the 19th century.

Owner

The N. Daskalantonakis Group still own the hotel thirty years after its creation.

History

The Baby Grand's intention was to bring together elements relating to Athens - history, culture, innovation and diversity. Previously a hotel, it was recreated to emulate the style of modern Athens: classical and contemporary.

Features

Established Greek graffiti artists have decorated the walls in an extraordinary portfolio of designs, from Spider-Man and the Smurfs to Chinese landscapes of tumbling waterfalls and snow-capped mountains. It may not be to your taste, but it's certainly not boring - though there are also a few conventionally decorated rooms. The reception is designed as a garage, with desks in two vintage Mini Coopers; the Champagne bar has huge white leather recliners, colourful Perspex partitions and quirky champagne glasses.
