Overview
Carbon is the sixth most common element in the universe and an integral building block in the chemistry of life. But in the Belgian city of Genk, it is more than just the foundation of organic science, it's a striking and sophisticated design hotel wholly dedicated to rejuvenation and relaxation.
Owner
Owner, Peter Geurden, has already strongly promoted the region with five other hotels in his Different Hotels Group
History
One of the most important industrial cities in Flanders, Genk was the heart of the nineteenth century coal-mining industry in the province of Limburg. The Carbon Hotel is located in the centre of this revitalizing urban hub. The black gold of the mining industry that dominated the region in the past is a central theme at the Carbon Hotel, where Limburg designers present a harmonious mix of originality, luxury and style.
Accommodation and Features
PCP Architects developed both the building and the interiors while using carbon as the inspiration for the inside and out. The interior design scheme is based on carbon and the five elements of Eastern pre-science - wood, fire, earth, water and metal - metal tables, wooden chairs, solid trunks as occasional tables and fragments of stone can be found throughout the lobby, lounge and each of the 60 rooms. The facade is an obvious reference to the nearby mining fields. It's a solid front of dark brown bricks that glistens beyond a wall of glass. The designs for Carbon offer splashes of colour and pattern against a bold black colour scheme with a plethora of local Belgian companies providing the furniture and fittings.
