Overview
Easily missed and hidden behind a simple doorway, Dar Darma is not what you would expect to find hidden in the maze of Medina's backstreets.
Owners
Massimo Tocchetti and Dario Locatelli's houses all boast huge spaces with high ceilings and floods of light. These are no ordinary establishments, as the Italian PR gurus always favour buildings with heavy period detail, but with enough architectural quirks to make them full of charm and worthy of wonder.
History
Dar Darma is indeed a slice of history, preserving, as it does, the texture of times gone by. Its imperfections are celebrated and maintained, while it's original features have been renovated to perfection, breathing life into both the personality and history of this beautiful building. The new additions aside, the layout of this Marrakech house is just as it would have been in the 17th century.
Features
Think luxury, think Italy and Morocco, but above all think tradition and vision: the romance of the past and freedom of the future. This exotic blend is not easily achieved, however, and
according to Tocchetti, the renovation of the Dar Darma was the stuff of nightmares. Capturing the past while maintaining standards was quite a challenge, as the renovation of the original cavernous rooms - complete with cedar-lined ceilings and elaborate wall mosaics - happened alongside the insertion of such modern day essentials as air-conditioning and en suite bathrooms.
