The story of brothers Robat and Tomi, and sisters Hafwen and Sian Teleri is told in this edition of 04 Wal. Not only have the two brothers married the two sisters but the two couples live 500 yards from each other in the village of Sarn near Pwllheli. Theyve succeeded in creating comfortable homes whilst retaining their traditional atmosphere.
owners: Hafwen & Robat Hughes location: Sarn, Pwllheli
style: Traditional and tasteful
best feature: The use of the wood from the old chapel next door
Its taken 11 years for Hafwen and Robat to renovate their house which is now a cosy and welcoming home for them and their three young children. They had two connecting buildings to work with. Part of one used to be the village shop, and the other was used as a guesthouse in the summer.
The heart of their renovated home is the kitchen which the front door opens into. With the Aga creating a warm glow, and all of the impressive woodwork, it comes as no surprise to learn that this is Hafwens favourite room. Robat is a carpenter by trade and he made the kitchen himself, using wood from a former chapel down the road.
Hafwen declares "This house has the stamp of both of us. Were very happy here and I would never want to move."
