Marc and his father, who’s an architect, have worked together to transform this former coachouse in Cardiff into a home fit for the 21st Century. The building has an unusual shape, but they worked with the original features, changing the location of the stairs and adding many skylights to create a light, open space. The fact that the interior had no supporting walls was an advantage, meaning that they had a blank canvas to work on.

owners Marc Evans
location: Cardiff
style: Economical – a canvas for the architectural details
best feature: The porch which is a room in itself

Marc’s father added some of his characteristic touches, such as the widespread use of white, the black borders around the doors, and the use of internal glazing.

The space downstairs, formerly used as a garage, has an ‘industrial’ feel, but provides the right atmosphere for Marc to write and work.
