For what used to be a traditional old long-house where the farmer lived in one half, and the animals in the other is now a gorgeous family dwelling for the Clarkes and their four grown-up children to enjoy. What’s so special about this place, is that the character of the original building remains intact, and stands in stark contrast to the new, oak-framed, light-filled extension.
On one side there are cosy, intimate rooms to sit back and bunker down, while on the other, the enormous double-height extension, in all its baronial splendour, is the perfect place for eating, living and partying. The two halves are seamlessly joined by the exposed timber beams and Rena’s collection of plates, glasses, photographs, trinket boxes and shells that cover walls, windowsills and shelves throughout.
However, this is a real home for real people, a place where every last decorative teacup can be used. At the heart of this philosophy and at the heart of the house lies the kitchen, a gathering place for the Clarkes to relax and eat good food.
Yes, this is a practical and beautiful house where the old collides head on with the new to create a timeless and enviable look. But, above all else, it is the unbeatable and uplifting views that will make you want to stay…forever.
