In the lively city of Singapore, Aled visits the home of Guto ab Owen from Llanrwst, who works for an architectural company in the city.
owner: Guto ab Owain location: Singapore style: Minimalist, & open, with plenty of glass letting the light flood in best feature: The fact that the house is so open from all sides
With most of the island’s inhabitants living in council houses or sky rise flats, Guto and his partner Helen were lucky to find their home. “One of the main features which attracted us to this house was the fact that more or less all the rooms have openings to the outside. It breaks down the boundary between inside and out – one is an extension of the other. Because of the temperate climate, we can sit in or out, day and night,” explains Guto.
The house is full of reminders of Wales and artefacts the couple have collected on their travels, particularly local and Chinese items. The open-plan design means that one part of the house flows seamlessly into the next, with features such as the lovely wooden block flooring keeping the continuity between the different areas.
