Carol and Gareth Williams from Llanrug in Gwynedd have succeeded in creating a gorgeous home for themselves and their children Llifon and Emma out of old cowsheds. There used to be four cowsheds here originally, full of old hay and equipment including an ancient tractor, but now the buildings have been utterly transformed.

best feature: The old Post Office counter

One of the family’s favourite rooms is the large kitchen, which is an excellent place to have a chat and a cuppa, surrounded by the green walls and the magnificent woodwork. Here there’s an old counter which sat for years in the Llanrug Post Office. When the Post Office was being refurbished, Carol decided that the old counter would be the perfect addition to her new kitchen. "I went in to buy a stamp and I came out with the counter" she says with a smile.

One of the biggest tasks was to place windows along the back of the house, but they have ensured that light floods into the living spaces. The overall feel is one of light and space and the family love it. "Everyone’s got their own little piece of personal space" says Gareth.
