Once they had to think about it the current owners realised they had made more changes to this house than they'd thought. But the heart of the house - i'ts open and 'sociable' kitchen with it's hand painted tiles remains untouched; as do the uninterrupted views and the pleasure they derive from living in such a distinctive home.

Experts opinion
It is a brave soul that commissions a pioneering home to live in - somewhere that stand outs aesthetically and functionally from the norm. But that's what the original owners of this ultra-contemporary structure did back in the sixties - and the results were award winning and exciting to say the least. Perhaps it is an even braver soul, who takes the original essence of such a home and tweaks it and moulds it to become a dwelling more in tune with their own lifestyle.

This is what Glyn and Mari Evans did - and with great success. The original mushroom shape has undergone many changes: what was once just a single-floor upstairs dwelling has now been extended 'downwards' to include more rooms; the open balcony is now a closed-in conservatory (different, but more useable according to the Evans') with new windows.

Some parts however remain unchanged. The open-plan kitchen/diner for instance is as useable and sociable now as it was thirty years ago, and the graphic decorative wall tiles give the whole look a cool retro vibe. Above all else, the magnificent garden and sea views are a constant that will never need alteration.
