04WAL: HOTELS OF THE WORLD

Leah's Favourite Things

‘Caravaggio
Wales - SLEEPERZ

Stylish but simple, the curved shape of the pendant captures a feminine form. Its masculine construction creates the right counterbalance with the shades feminine lines. The body of the shade is made of drawn steel and coated in a smooth high-gloss black paint. The red cord which is a dominant accent colour thought the hotel, injects an energy to the interior scheme and the shades monochrome body. The thin red suspension cord adhered to the shade looks akin to a bucket or a pail!

Scale model of Marques de Riscal
Spain - MARQUES DE RISCAL
Marques de Riscal

Marques de RiscaI was particularly thrilled to see Frank O. Gehry's scaled model and concept sketches that illustrate the development stages behind creating the ‘chateau for the twenty first century', i.e. the Marques de Riscal Hotel.

The matchsticks and sticky back plastic machete transforms from a car crash entanglement to a flamboyant amalgamation of titanium and stainless steel. The mind-blowing rolls of mirrored stainless steel and pale gold-and-pink-coloured titanium hues, inspired by wine flooding out of a bottle, flow into a monolithic sandstone and network of steel joists.

Floating Reception desk
Italy - PALAZZO BARBARIGO
Palazzo Barbarigo

Interior designer Alvin Grassi has reinterpreted the palazzo in feminine terms. Overlooking the Grand Canal, the art-deco inspired interior contrasts with the colourful elaborate exterior landscape.

The bespoke furniture looks like it is from the same family, grey and smoky toned. The satin fibreglass lobby desk is truly stunning as it appears to float on the darker marble flooring, illuminated by a blue strip-light. The curves within expresses a feminine feel to the reception come boudoir.
