3 Lle: Donna Edwards
Actress Donna Edwards, who plays the part of Britt Monk in Pobol y Cwm, opens a new series of 3 Lle (3 Places).
The series offers individuals the opportunity to choose three places of signifance in their lives, and the viewer visits those places in their company.
Donna's first location is where she was brought up, Trefechan in Merthyr Tydfil. "It was a privilege to grow up in Trefechan," says the versatile actress who has won BAFTA Cymru's Best Actress Award twice. "These villages weren't at all poor in spirit."
Fond memories about seaside holidays lead Donna to her second choice, Trecco Bay, Porthcawl. She, her parents and brother used to spend two weeks there every summer. "This was our family holiday. It was a big thing... And what I remember is that all of the men used to wear suits on the beach!"
Looking back over her upbringing and career, Donna says that learning Welsh is one of the best things she has ever done. "It's given me self confidence, and makes me feel that I belong to Wales."
But she'll never forget her roots. "They say, 'you can take the girl out of Merthyr, but you can't take Merthyr out of the girl', and I think that's totally true!"
