Eisteddfod Genedlaethol 2011

S4C celebrates the Eisteddfod's birthday

This year is an important one for the National Eisteddfod of Wales. The modern Eisteddfod celebrates its 150th birthday, and S4C will broadcast all the excitement, competing, entertainment and stories from the Eisteddfod Maes and beyond all week.

"In the daytime programmes, broadcast from ten in the morning to the end of the afternoon, the presenting team will bring all the stories from the stage and Maes. But we'll also be introducing a new strand to the programmes from this year's Festival," explains Ynyr Williams, BBC Cymru's Executive Producer responsible for the Eisteddfod programmes on S4C.

"In our evening programme throughout the week, as well as our usual winners' package, which will include all of the day's results and the fun and vibrancy of events on the Maes, presenter Rhun ap Iorwerth will lead a lively discussion on the day's highlights."

"I'm really looking forward to it," says Rhun, from Llangristiolus, Anglesey. "It will be really interesting to discuss what's been happening during the day with the guests. It will be a valuable addition to our coverage from the Eisteddfod this year, and I hope the viewers enjoy the discussion."

The programmes will also take a look at 150 years of the Eisteddfod.

"There'll be a feeling of nostalgia as we take a look back at past Eisteddfodau," says Catrin Evans, one of the producers of the daytime programmes. "If anyone has an interesting story to tell about the Eisteddfod or an old film or picture from the Festival they can contact us by e-mailing eisteddfod@bbc.co.uk."

The rest of the presenting team for S4C's Eisteddfod programmes are also looking forward to a busy week. Presenting the daytime programmes will be Huw Llywelyn Davies, Mari Grug, Morgan Jones, Mari Lovgreen and Siân Lloyd. Siân will be familiar to many BBC One Wales viewers as one of the Wales Today's presenters, and the Welsh learner who's originally from Wrexham will have plenty of opportunity to practice her Welsh around the busy Maes, located on farmland at Fferm Bers Isaf, Wrexham.

All of the events on the Eisteddfod Pavilion stage will be streamed online, uninterrupted all day, and the results will also be published on the web.
