Remembering Gari Williams

A special tribute evening to celebrate the life of one of Wales' most colourful and multi-talented popular entertainers, the late Gari Williams, is to be broadcast on S4C.

The stand-up comedian, actor, singer and presenter died 20 years ago this month when he was only 44 years old.

A tribute evening was held at Venue Cymru, Llandudno recently, to celebrate the life of a man who entertained thousands of people on television, radio and in halls and clubs throughout Wales and beyond over three decades.

Comedian Tudur Owen and actor John Ogwen present an unforgettable evening in the company of Gari Williams' family and friends and a galaxy of stars who filled the stage with memories and performances which portraythe eventful life of a Welsh light entertainment star.

Gari started his stand-up career under his real name, Emyr Williams, and enjoyed great success as part of the duo Emyr ac Elwyn with his brother, the late producer Elwyn Williams. We'll hear about his success as a presenter on BBC Radio Cymru, as an actor on Pobol y Cwm and on S4C comedy series such as Galw Gari.

There are performances of some of Gari's most popular numbers by artists such as Hogia'r Wyddfa, Tara Bethan, Tomos Wyn and Elgan Llŷr Thomas, and a rendition of one of his most famous sketches by members of the local Urdd group, Aelwyd Bro Cernyw.

Among the other contributors are Glan Davies, Dilwyn Roberts, Sue Roderick, Mari Gwilym, Sulwyn Thomas, John Pierce Jones, Sioned Mair, Iestyn Garlick, Dafydd Iwan, Cefin Roberts, Gaynor Morgan Rees, Dewi Rhys, Lyn T Jones and Gari Wyn.
