Llais i Gymru

A battle to be the 'Star for Wales'

S4C will follow one of the world's biggest record companies and a talent agent in their quest to discover Wales's next singing star in the new S4C series Llais i Gymru. The search is for a singer with the voice, personality, image and the all-important ability to sell millions of records.

Soprano and presenter Shân Cothi follows Decca's exciting journey in conjunction with talent agent Sioned James from Cardiff, in the new series starting Tuesday night, 10 January.

The series follows the final four competitors on their challenging journey as they hone their skills in an attempt to impress a panel of experts and seal a record deal. If they find a real star among the four finalists, the artist will be launched as a new talent world-wide.

On the judging panel are Mark Wilkinson, Managing Director, Decca Records; Tom Lewis, Head of Artists and Repertoire, Decca Records, and the agent and prestigious choir leader, Sioned James.

"There's been a considerable amount of interest in the competition, with over 600 people of all ages and backgrounds trying for a place in the show. Llais i Gymru is a great chance for a singer to get the best possible start as a professional singing star," says Shân Cothi.

"The series follows their exciting journey from the first audition to the final show. The four are given new opportunities and the best possible coaching by mentors. They develop their vocal skills and learn about recording, choreography and publicity. These are experiences which will be valuable to them in the professional world."

The series also goes behind-the-scenes within the music industry and gives an insight into events behind the recording studio doors.

The industry's biggest stars, such as Bryn Terfel, Alfie Boe and Wynne Evans will share their experiences and memories of auditions and offer valuable advice.

The series reaches a climax as the final four battle it out for the Llais i Gymru title, showcasing their acts in London in front of a select audience of influential figures from the world of music. The panel will then reveal if any of the four deserves to be the next 'Star for Wales'.
