S4C kicks off the New Year celebrations in style with a magical edition of entertainment series, Noson Lawen, filmed underground at the Llechwedd Slate Quarry, near Blaenau Ffestiniog.
Among the artists treading the boards will be Connie Fisher, who played Maria in West End musical, The Sound of Music, and one of the world’s leading sopranos, Elin Manahan Thomas.
Singer-songwriter Caryl Parry Jones will compere the evening's events for the first time in the show’s history.
"It will be quite a challenge presenting in a cave in the middle of winter but I have to admit, it's a wonderful and atmospheric location," says Caryl, who is also known for her acting and presenting, as well as for being Wales’ Children’s Poet Laureate 2007-08.
Caryl, who is originally from Ffynnongroyw in Flintshire, is good friends with Pembrokeshire singer, Connie Fisher.
"I’ve known Connie since she was 16 through the Eisteddfod and so on, and her voice has developed successfully since her rise to stardom. She’s such a lovely woman whose feet are still firmly on the ground.
"It will be a reunion between the three of us - Elin, Connie and I. Elin is one of the best sopranos in the world; she interprets her songs very well and looks beautiful on stage. I’m looking forward to seeing her again," says Caryl.
Joining Connie and Elin on stage will be the Brythoniaid Male Voice Choir, Gwibdaith Hen Frân, Eilir Jones (as Ffarmwr Ffowc) and Myrddin ap Dafydd.
Caryl adds, "It will be great to welcome the New Year with a host of famous faces and a quarry-full of entertainment!"
