Comedian Tudur Owen will take the reins in a new comedy series Tudur Owen o’r Doc (Tudur Owen from the Dock).
After years of performing stand-up comedy around the UK, from Crymych Rugby Club to the Comedy Store in London, Tudur is looking forward to bringing his own brand of humour to the small screen.
Although S4C viewers are used to see Tudur perform in character as comedy policeman PC Leslie Wynne and as one part of the trio Beryl, Cheryl and Meryl, this is the first time for us to see Tudur perform as himself.
Tudur says, "I'm excited about performing out of character and although PC Leslie Wynne is a hard act to follow, I'm looking forward to making the audience laugh without wearing eyeliner!"
According to Tudur, the studio audience will play an important role in the series. "The programmes will be recorded in the Galeri centre, Caernarfon on a weekly basis and various guests will join me in front of a live audience. So as well as having a laugh, people will be able to react and contribute to what's happening on stage.
"What I like most about performing in front of a live audience is the fact you're never quite sure what's going to happen next. And with comedienne Gwenllian Jones and actor Rhys ap Hywel joining me in the first programme, I'll have to be ready for anything!"
Tudur has performed as a stand-up comedian in Wales and beyond for over ten years. He regularly appears in comedy clubs around Britain and this year he spent time performing his own show, The Worst Zoo in Britain, at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
"There's not that much difference performing in English or Welsh to be honest," he says. "Everyone laughs at the same things, apart from jokes about people from Anglesey. I find that audiences don't laugh much at those outside Wales – nor on Anglesey come to that!"
