Lee resigns from the US army after 25 years service. He joins the the army of Virginia as commander 21 July First Battle of Bull Run: The North loses. Bull Run lies 25 miles south of Washington Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson wins on behalf of the Confederacy 27 July George B.
