In the last programme of this series, we see the lengthy campaign of the Welshman, Robert Everett reaching its climax, and the slaves gaining their freedom after a bloody Civil War.

This was the period in which the Welsh press, which had just been established in America, was used to change the opinion of the Welsh people in the country, against slavery. But more than newspapers would be needed to change things

Dr. Jerry Hunter will be looking at the history of some of the Welsh people who fought against the slave masters in Kansas a Kentucky, and he will also be visiting one of the main centres of the slave trade, Charleston.

He will look also at some of the earliest efforts to secure equal status for the former slaves, and the Welsh people involved. For the African Americans, gaining their freedom would be a lengthy process, not an overnight event.
