Anthony Evans

Anthony Evans expresses his craft by using familiar, everyday objects to create a visual language of symbols, signs and colour. This is his way of making sense of the world around us. He says that "… feelings, emotions, dreams, memories and the landscape of Wales - these are the main themes that underpin my work."

Anthony was born in 1948, and he has spent many years in the world of education. After studying for a B.Ed., he taught and then lectued in Art, and is now a repected guest lecturer and award-winning illustrator. He lives and works in Cardiff, but his work has travelled widely, having been shown in Italy, Germany, the USA and India.

His work has formed a part of over 40 group exhibitions as well as the exhibitions abroad and personal shows. The intricacy of his work draws the eye and can be deceptively simple at first sight. Looking more closely, the detail reveals itself and the medium provides a suitable vehicle for the message. The paintings are warm and absorbing, perhaps because, although Anthony portrays universal themes, looking at the pictures creates a very personal resonance.

As the artist himself says: "Through the use of memory and the investigation of past incidents, I find it possible to establish an identity as an artist and thus record a narrative of the self."
