The series begins in Dinefwr Castle, near Llandeilo in the Tywi Valley. The castle was a seat of power from as early as the reign of Hywel Dda in the 10th century, and it was a central location for the influential Arglwydd (Lord) Rhys in the late twelfth century. The painter of the original painting is unknown, and the two artists who will be interpreting this castle are Anthony Evans and Iwan Bala, both well-known, and very different in style.
Anthony Evans is an artist who expresses emotion and dreams when he portrays the Welsh landscape, whilst Iwan Bala is famously creates mixed media works, often to convey a message about the minorities of the world. Both men rise ably to this challenge, as might be expected.
