Eleri lives and works in the same Welsh-speaking rural community in which she was brought up, returning there after study and a period of work in Manchester. The beautiful landscapes that surround this small community are the greatest influence on Eleri’s work. Growing up on a farm, the land has always been integral to Eleri’s life and has instilled in her a strong sense of belonging.
The art of storytelling has significantly shaped Eleri’s work, too, creating imagery in her mind based on mythical and ancient narrative. Eleri creates her pieces through a combination of embroidery and appliqué, layered over a painted canvas. Having exhibited work widely in Europe, Eleri recently won the award for the most outstanding exhibit in the 'Art of Stitch' exhibition at the Barbican, London.
Whilst working on her reinterpretation of Wilson’s famous image of Castell Dinas Bran, Eleri expressed her strong views on the responsibility Welsh artists have in promoting their country. "Welsh artists have a role not only in looking back over the centuries but in looking outwards and in taking the good name of Wales out with us," says Eleri.
