Iwan Gwyn Parry, who lives in Rachub, Bethesda in north Wales is a huge admirer of Turner’s pioneering interpretations of the landscape. Born and bred in Holyhead, Anglesey, the 35-year-old artist and college lecturer also believes in depicting every facet of the modern landscape, its industrial landmarks as well as its natural beauty. He paints powerful and dramatic oils of the north Wales coast.
Iwan explains, “What has attracted me to this kind of landscape over the last few years is the contrast between stunning natural scenery and industrial landmarks which have their own kind of beauty. I’m not interested in painting a nostalgic picture of rural Wales. What interests me is the whole landscape, and this is what interested Turner too.”
For this challenge, he prepared sketches for his oil landscape on a modern steel tower in the middle of the estuary as well as on the banks on the estuary.
Iwan’s new works will be exhibited to the public as part of a travelling art exhibition.
