Stuart Byrne, who lives in Holyhead, Anglesey is following a degree course at Coleg Parc Menai. His local environment is an inspirational force in his experimental, three-dimensional work especially the industrial landscape. The port itself and the railway line give him a great deal of material for both his sculptures and paintings.
His depiction of South Stack, with its highly perilous rocks and 400 steps leading to the lighthouse, is somewhat different to Gastineau’s. Stuart explains, “Coming here to sketch and paint on the rocky coastlines creates its own energy naturally. Gastineau’s work is lighter, whiter and more otherworldly, my work was put together on a faster tempo”.
Stuart’s new works will be exhibited to the public as part of a travelling art exhibition.
