Therese Urbanska, of Rhydyclafdy, Llyn Peninsula, north Wales, a graduate of Coleg Menai in 2004, has won the Young Artist Award at the Spirit of Llyn Art Competition 2004 for her striking mixed media work. She enjoys working on paper and canvas using a variety of media such as pastel, paint, charcoal, ink and collage and her initial task in her interpretation of the Bristol channel from Penarth is collecting driftwood and debris from the seashore to get the feel of the place.
Therese says, “I made sketches to get the feel of the place, and turned the place into the island to get the focus of the landscape of Sisley’s picture. When I got back to my studio at home, I then combined the shape and feel of everything I collected, without actually using the items themselves, to create my own interpretation of the landscape, using some of the same colours used in Sisley’s picture.”
Therese’s new works will be exhibited to the public as part of a travelling art exhibition.
