S4C are calling on choirs in all parts ofWales– and beyond – to compete in the choral competition Côr Cymru 2013 which will be held in Aberystwyth in April.

The closing date is on Monday 1 October 2012 and entries will be split into five categories – Children’s, Youth, Women’s, Male Voice and Mixed choirs.
Hefin Owen of Rondo Media, who produce the programmes for S4C, says, “We are all looking forward to the Côr Cymru competition. It is an event which has earned its place in the choral calendar and winning the title has become an ambition for many choirs.”
Each choir who make it to the semi-finals will receive an award of £500. A further £500 will be awarded to the winners of each category and they will then go on to compete for a £4000 prize in the live final on 14 April.
This will be the sixth time for S4C to hold the choral competition. Côr Cywair, a mixed choir from Newcastle Emlyn, under the baton of Islwyn Evans won the competition in 2011.
