Carolau o Langollen

Everyone recognises the catchy lyrics of the insurance comparison advertisements dominating our television screens and their singer, Gio Compario - "And you'll thank your stars that you went to Go Compare!"

But over the festive period, viewers can see Wynne Evans - the tenor who portrays Gio Compario - as he gets rid of the moustache and his Italian accent to perform in a Christmas concert, Carolau o Langollen, from the Llangollen International Pavilion.

In the programme, we'll hear Wynne perform some classics by Ryan Davies, traditional carols and songs from his new album, which is due for release in April 2011.

The Performers

Wynne is joined on stage by Caryl Parry Jones, young soloist Rhys Meilir, Northop Silver Band, the Debbie Chapman dancers and singer Iona Jones - daughter of the late S4C presenter and presenter of Carolau o Llangollen, Robin Jones. We'll also be introduced to the sounds of the Flintshire Youth Choir; the winning choir of this year's Codi Canu competition, Côr y Rhos, and the winners of the Daily Post children's choir competition - Bodedern School Choir - as they perform a special version of a classic alongside Wynne.

Wynne, originally from Carmarthen, says, "I'm really looking forward to performing at Llangollen. It should be a great night with a fantastic mix of music and something to please everyone. I love Christmas music, especially carols, and so an invitation to sing in Llangollen is doubly good."

Branwen Gwyn and Hywel Gwynfryn host the musical extravaganza and the winner of the 2010 Carol competition, E Olwen Jones from Talwrn on Anglesey, will hear her winning carol - Dim ond un - performed for the first time during the concert.
