Presenter Morgan Jones knows a cornet from a trombone and an euphonium from a base, as he's been a member of Trefor Brass Band in Gwynedd since he was eight years old.
In a special edition of S4C's events series, Pencampwriaeth Bandiau Pres Cymru: Digwyddiadau '11, Morgan shares his knowledge with co-presenter Mari Grug as they visit an important event in the brass band world.
Porthcawl's Grand Pavilion is the location for the Welsh Open Brass Bands Entertainment Championship. The Welsh Open Brass Band Entertainment Championship is flourishing. This year, 11 of Britain's most successful bands will be competing, including the reigning British Champions, Tredegar Town Band.
Morgan Jones says, "This is a prestigious competition. Since only bands from the two top sections (the Championship and First Section) can compete, the performances will be truly special, and the cream of the brass band world will be on stage. The tension is always electric in a brass band competition, and I'm really looking forward to being at the centre of things once again, but without the pressure of having to play myself!"
We'll have a taste of the tension and competition in the company of Morgan and Mari. They'll also take a peek behind-the-scenes at the hard work that goes on to ensure the smooth running of the event, and chat to some of the competitors.
