S4C viewers can enjoy a taste of summer with a new series of musical highlights reliving last year’s Tân y Ddraig (Dragon’s Fire) concert at the 2007 Faenol Festival. Introduced by Sioe Gelf presenter Lisa Gwilym, the series is a chance to enjoy vibrant performances by some of Wales’ most popular rock and pop musicians. Local lad, Bryn Fôn, opens the series.
Bryn has sung on stages the length and breadth of Wales with Crysbas, Sobin a’r Smaeliaid and Bryn Fôn a’r Band for over thirty years.
He’s also a successful actor, best known for playing Tecwyn Parri in comedy drama, C’mon Midffîld, and Les in gritty drama Talcen Caled on S4C.
Born and bred in Llanllyfni, singing in a concert so close to home, was a fantastic experience for Bryn Fôn.
“It’s a lovely, homely festival, right on my doorstep. But you’re also aware that there are a lot of friends and family in the audience and that can create extra pressure,” he admits.
Although he has performed at four Tân y Ddraig concerts, bringing the evening to a close last year, wasn’t an easy task for Bryn.
“I think it’s quite a responsibility. Stepping out and seeing 12,000 people tends to make your knees turn to jelly. But hearing 12,000 people singing the chorus of your song takes your breath away.”
The six part series includes performances by a number of other popular musicians including singer-songwriter Huw Chiswell, who has been in the business for over 20 years. A number of his songs are now Welsh classics.
Other bands featured in the series are Y Sibrydion, Frizbee, Steve Eaves and Fflur Dafydd a’r Barf.
