Wynne Evans

A documentary and a concert

S4C will broadcast exclusive coverage of Go Compare star Wynne Evans' star-studded homecoming concert at Carmarthen's Lyric Theatre on Mother's Day.

But the concert is just half of a double helping of programmes about the Carmarthen-bred tenor who shot to fame as singer Gio Compario in the Gocompare.com insurance TV adverts.

The documentary Wynne Evans will look at the serious opera singer beyond the thunderous voice of the jolly Gio. He's a passionate lover of music and culture, encouraged to perform by his inspirational mother, Elizabeth Evans.

Over the last few months, the cameras have followed the 39-year-old tenor who now lives in Llanishen, Cardiff with his wife Tanwen and their two children, Asmay, 9 and Taliesin, 6.

Exciting changes

These have been eventful times indeed for Wynne who has recorded his first album in Prague, launched the album 'A Song in my Heart' with major recording label, Warner Music; performed in Covent Garden's Royal Opera House in the new opera Anna Nicole: the Opera and released his charity Christmas single for Comic Relief. All that, on top of the homecoming concert at Carmarthen's Lyric Theatre.

Throughout it all, we see a man whose feet remain on the ground, while his voice brings him international recognition.

Behind the seemingly laid-back attitude is a burning dedication to the arts and music reflected in the quality and diversity of his debut album which shows a classical singer crossing over to more popular show songs.
