Programme 2
In the opening episode of this new series, getting to Provence seemed prize enough. But as we revisit Chez Dudley this week, it soon becomes apparent to the eight finalists who made the grade, that the hard work is only just beginning, and that the 'cook-off' in Llandrillo College was merely a taste of things to come.
By now Aldwyn, Jan, Nesta, Nerys, Anna, Eleanor, Owain and Michael John have arrived in Provence. This is the land of lavender fields, olive oil, honey and row upon row of bountiful vineyards - not to mention sunshine from dawn 'til dusk - and this will also be their home for the next six weeks or so.
The competitors however will not have much time to savour the wonderful views or stunning scenery, since their first challenge comes within hours of arriving in France. And another shock awaits them as well, as Dudley informs them the weakest competitor on the day will have to turn on his or her heels and return to Wales immediately - having hardly had time to unpack even!
The Five-Ingredient Challenge
Fish, pepper, onion, tomato and courgette
The first challenge of the day at the cookery school in Provence, as the title suggests, was a challenge to create a dish in 40 minutes using five main ingredients. Judged by Guy Gedda and René Bérard, two of the most famous chefs in Provence and France.
The eight were extremely nervous and to make matters worse, one of them would be leaving at the end of the challenge!
After sweating in the hot kitchen, there could be only one winner and one loser. Aldwyn won the challenge, but poor Owain was on the seat back to Wales!
