After an exciting season, the World Rally Championship reached its climax with the Wales Rally GB. S4C’s Ralïo were there celebrating its golden anniversary and broadcasting its 50th programme.
The competition was a feast for the eyes as the current World Champion, Sébastien Loeb in the Citroën C4, battled it out against the winner of last year’s Wales Rally GB, Marcus Grönholm from Finland, in his Ford Focus.
Emyr Penlan and Lowri Morgan presented the series and both were looking forward to celebrating Ralïo’s special anniversary on home turf.
Emyr says, “I can’t believe we’ll be broadcasting our 50th programme from Rally Wales GB! I guessed the series would be popular but the fact that the magazine Motorsport News describes Ralïo as ‘the best programme on earth’ is a huge bonus.”
Lowri added, “I’ve presented all sorts of sports programmes but after joining Ralïo, I’ve come to admire the strength and dedication of the drivers and their teams. At times, it’s hard not to share the joy of the teams when they celebrate success and commiserate with their disappointment in losing.”
Wyn Gruffydd, one of S4C’s team of commentators during the Rugby World Cup, has also commentated on this series. He says, “I’ve been following rallying for 20 years so celebrating Ralïo’s 50th programme, here in Wales during the Wales Rally GB, is brilliant. And with the race for the title so close, this is sure to be a rally to remember.”
