Questions about Clic

Frequently asked questions about the Clic service.

If you have a question that isn't answered below, please feel free to contact us

  • Is Clic a free-to-use service?

Yes. Clic is the video-on-demand service provided by S4C of Parc Tŷ Glas, Llanishen, Cardiff CF14 5DU.

  • Can I watch Clic anywhere in the world?

Normally, Clic is only available to view in the UK. If worldwide rights have been cleared, the programme's Clic page will tell you the licensed territories. The necessary permissions must be obtained before S4C can offer any content on the web. From time to time, it is possible to watch some programmes outside the UK. These are usually events or programmes that don't have rights issues attached to them.

Sometimes it's not possible to secure rights because of the nature of the programme or the ownership rights. The cost of clearing rights on the basis of worldwide broadcast can be very expensive. This is especially true of music, which is an integral part of our programmes. Some of the agencies who represent composers and songwriters have created a procedure for clearing rights on behalf of each other ('reciprocal arrangements') but this is an arduous and complex task. It's also hard to secure the necessary clearance to offer the music outside the UK.

Likewise, performing contracts with the talent unions (Equity on behalf of the artists, the Musicians' Union on behalf of musicians and the Writers' Guild on behalf of the writers) give us permission to use their contributions in the UK. There are arrangements in place which mean we can offer material outside the UK (on television and in other media), but it presumes that the content is sold and payment is due to all contributors to recognise the extended use.

You can get a list of the programmes that are available worldwide by contacting the S4C Viewers' Hotline on +44(0)870 600 4141 or feel free to use the contact form at the bottom of this page.

  • Do I need new software to view Clic?

Clic runs on a Flash player. Most new computers already have the latest version of Flash installed. If you receive a prompt asking you if you would like to install Flash, don't worry. It won't corrupt your computer, it doesn't cost anything to install it and you won't have to load it more than once. Simply follow the instructions on your screen and enjoy the viewing.

  • How long after the programme is on television will it go onto Clic?

Usually as soon as it is transmitted. Live programmes will be available as soon as possible.

  • Are all S4C programmes available to view on Clic?

Programmes are available to view again whenever S4C has the online rights.

  • Where do I find programmes earlier than the last 7 days?

Click through to the programme's Clic view page, where you will see a list of all currently- available episodes from the series.

  • Are subtitles always available?

If they are available on TV, they will normally be available online. The same applies to programmes with signing and audio description. Due to technical issues, it is not possible to subtitle live webstreaming at present.

  • How do I know how long programmes are left on for/have been on?

Each episode will have a transmission date and an expiry date.

  • Can I download programmes from Clic?

This is not an option at present, but we will inform Clic users if the situation changes in the future.

  • Is there a link to a TV guide?

Yes. Click on the Listings tab in the S4C header at the top of the page.

  • Do I need a separate licence to watch TV online?

Not at the moment, although this may change in future (see S4C Terms and Conditions for further information).

  • How is Clic regulated?

The Clic service and its content are regulated by the S4C Authority. Further information about the S4C Authority.
