The last programme in the present series of Codi Canu will be transmitted from St David’s Hall, Cardiff on 27 November 2010. The four choirs will be competing for the Codi Canu 2010 Trophy.
The winning choir will be voted by a combination of a panel of judges (Owain Arwel Hughes, Gwawr Owen and Rhys Meirion) and the public phone vote.
The programmes will be transmitted on S4C – the first show between 2000 and 2100 and the second show between 2130 and 2215.
The four choirs will each perform two pieces during the first programme.
All four choirs will be performing as a massed choir during the second programme, before the winning choir is announced.
The panel of judges will cast their vote after all four choirs have performed and the result of their vote will be announced during the second programme.
The opening of the phone lines will be announced at the end of the first programme when the viewers can vote.
The lines will remain open until the presenter announces the closing of the lines during the second programme.
The Codi Canu scoring system combines judges and viewers votes. The result of the judges’ votes will not guarantee a winning result for any choir. The viewers votes can always influence the outcome.
Each judge will award marks to each choir – 10 marks to the 1st, 5 marks to the 2nd, 3 marks to the 3rd and 2 marks to the 4th.
The judges and viewers will need to take the following into consideration before voting:
1. The choir’s performance
2. The conductor’s performance
3. The overall performance
The total marks for each choir will be converted into a percentage.
The voting system provider Pawb will process the telephone votes and will provide the results in percentage form.
The phone vote and the judges vote will be combined giving a total percentage.
The choir with the highest percentage will be the competition winners.
In the event of a tie, Owain Arwel Hughes, the chairman of the panel of judges, will have the casting vote.
The voting process will be overseen by an independent invigilator – Prydwen Elfed-Owens.
Voting by phone only. The telephone numbers will be placed on the website on Friday 26/11/10 but please note that you will not be able to vote until the presenter announces the lines to be open during the first live show once all four choirs have performed. Don’t phone before the lines open as your vote will not count and you could be charged for the call.
The phone lines will close at approx 2200 following the announcement by the presenter. Pawb, the telephone voting service provider will process the votes and provide the Production Company with the results in percentage form.
The Production Company will process the viewers’ vote and the judges vote and combine both votes to create a new percentage.
The result will be announced from the stage at the end of the second programme.
The result will be posted on the Codi Canu website on Monday morning 29/11/10
Voters must obtain permission from the bill payer before voting and phone voters under the age of 12 should obtain parent/guardian consent before voting. Make sure you dial the number correctly. Please note that this is a phone vote only – no voting by text, through this website or via the red button.
Boomerang reserve the right to disqualify votes if it has reasonable grounds to suspect that fraudulent voting has occurred or if it considers there has been any deliberate attempt to manipulate the result.
There are a number of contingencies which could occur during or before each show, as with any other live television programmes. Contingencies cover the withdrawal of any conductor for health reasons or other unforeseen circumstances outside the control of the Production Company.
The Production Company may delay, amend or cancel the vote at any time. In the event of cancelling the phone vote, the judges vote will be final.
For the purpose of verifying any claim for refunds (where offered) or investigating possible voting irregularities, the Production Company may need to request the network operator to disclose the telephone number that you are voting from. Please note that this will still be required where you have originally opted not to disclose your telephone number (caller’s line identification barring). If you do not agree to this, you should not vote.
Where any such investigations are required, the Production Company will only ever use your telephone number for the purpose of processing refunds or investigating possible voting irregularities and will not publish or provide it to anyone without permission, except where required for enforcement of these terms.
The Production Company and its sub-contractors cannot accept any responsibility whatsoever for
1. any technical failure or malfunction or any other problem with any telephone network or line, system, server, provider or otherwise which may result in any vote being lost or not properly registered or recorded and
2. any talent, including conductors, presenters or judges leaving the show for any reason.
The voting on this show is carried out in accordance with the S4C competition guidelines.
Please note if you are directly connected in any way with the production of the programme or the provision of telephony services to the programme you are not eligible to vote.
