28 September 2010 – Rhondda Valley Choir’s Challenge

Members of the Rhondda Choir,

As mentioned tonight during your rehearsal, you will take part in your first challenge on SATURDAY 9th October.

All choir members will be expected to attend if possible. Your challenge is based on the general history & history of choral singing in the area, which will be in the Rhondda Heritage Park, Trehafod.

The choral history in the Rhondda begins shortly after 38 wagons of the World’s best steam coal trundles up out of the Bute Colliery, Treherbet in 1855. Each of the collieries had their own choir, and each choir was closely linked to a different coal company. So in memory of the strong links between coal mining and singing, we’re taking you back to its roots and you’re off to perform...underground.

We hope the exercise will be a fun way of working together with your fellow choir members in a different situation from your weekly rehearsals. You’ll have warmed up your voices nicely at the Heritage Park before going underground and we hope that you are ready to sing out loud for your challenge.

Buses will be arranged to collect you and deliver you back to the Cambrian NUM Club. It’s important that we know if you are or aren’t coming on this day so we have enough space on the buses. Please fill in the register this evening to let us know.

What you will need to bring:

· Suitable walking shoes
· Weather appropriate clothes – warm layers as you will be outside/underground
· Rain coat (in case of inclement weather)
· Bottle of water (in case you get thirsty!)
· Copies of your Music

Schedule:
08:30am: Bus will leave Cambrian NUM Club and take you direct to the Rhondda Heritage Park
09:00am: Arrive at Rhondda Heritage Park
09:00am – 12:30pm: Helping the Heritage Park with a few tasks as your warm up & your singing challenge
12:30pm: Finish Filming – bus will take you back to Cambrian NUM Club
13:00pm: Arrive back at Cambrian NUM Club

We would love for everyone to take part in this challenge.

Either confirm ASAP with Angharad tonight if you will or will not be attending or by e-mail, lowri.owen@boomerang.co.uk.

I look forward to hearing from you all ASAP!

All the best,

Lowri
