Bryn Fôn

Bryn Fôn

Popular actor and singer, Bryn Fôn recalls the three most disturbing days of his life in the first programme of the new series.

In 1990 Bryn Fôn, from Llanllyfni, near Caernarfon, was arrested under suspicion of involvement in the holiday homes arson campaign being staged in Wales by Meibion Glyndŵr. He was held at Dolgellau police station and eventually released on bail.

Meibion y Fflam

One popular belief was that one of Bryn's songs 'Meibion y Fflam' (Sons of the Flame) led to his arrest. But Bryn points out in the programme that the police didn't mention the song until the last afternoon of his three days in custody.

Looking back twenty years, Bryn talks about the effect of the incident on his family. "It told terribly on my mother and father," he says. "My father witnessed the whole thing; he was there during the arrest. It told terribly on him and certainly on my mother. I don't think my mother's nerves were ever quite the same again."

.

The only good thing to come out of the whole episode, according to Bryn, was that sales of CDs by him and his group, Sobin a'r Smaeliaid "went through the roof."

The early days

Bryn also talks about his early days as a singer with the group, Crysbas, his work as an actor including his role as Tecs, the Bryncoch United goalkeeper in S4C's hugely popular comedy series C'mon Midffild. He explains how his interest in running and keeping fit led to his title as She magazine's 'Hunk of the Month' in the 1980s.
