1894: 100 of the Welsh Patagonians settle in Cwm Hyfryd, to the West of the Chubut and close to the Andes.

1899: Heavy flooding nearly destroys everything, spoiling many of the farms and halting the development of the railway. By now, the government was insisting that all children had to learn Spanish at school.
