1940's: This decade sees the revival of democracy in Argentina, with Juan Perón elected as a popular candidate. Even so, it is a difficult decade for the Chubut valley as more and more young people decide to leave for the big cities. A certain amount of favouritism on the part of Buenos Aires sees the farmers in that region given preferential treatment, which has a negative effect on the Chubut - by the end of the decade, the farmers there had stopped producing wheat and only grew alfalfa.
