Pontypridd

Pontypridd is situated about 12 miles north from Cardiff. It is the second largest town in population in Wales, with nearly 33,500 people living there. It was in Pontypridd that James James wrote the music for Land Of My Fathers, to which his father, Evan James, wrote the words. A memorial to commemorate them both can be found in Ynysangharad Park in the town centre.

Shân will be calling in to the famous Sardis Road playing field to see if she can keep the boys in order as they train for their next game! Shân will be chatting to Guto Davies, the club's Press Officer, and one of their star players - Rhys Downes - who is out injured at the moment.

Iolo will be meeting Dean Powell, a local historian who specializes in the history of the famous local doctor, Dr William Price. Dean has written a book about this colourful character who spent a lot of his life in Pontypridd.

Shân will be calling in on Alun Reynolds as he records a few songs for his new album. Alun is the lead singer with the band 'Hey! Tonight' as well as being busy at work recording his own album, writing scripts and teaching in a local school.

Iolo will have the opportunity to quiz the Welsh DJ about her upbringing in Pontypridd, her work as a radio DJ and the connection between the famous Ynysangharad Park and the music scene.

Iolo will take advantage of the opportunity to see a slightly more rural area of Pontypridd when he visits Matt Perrott at Cwrt y Celyn Farm. Matt works as a freelance instructor for the locally-based quad bike and activities centre. Matt specializes in gorge walking, so Iolo will try this activity for the first time.

Shân will call into the Muni Arts Centre in town to meet Angela Gould to learn a bit more about the activities organized for the locals of every age. Shân is amazed by the skill of the 'Take Part' group as they rehearse their dancing. Are Shân's moves are up to scratch?

Iolo will be meeting Gavin Ashcroft as he teaches the Bro Tâf crew some new clog-dancing steps at a local school. Under Gavin's watchful eye, Bro Tâf have been very successful over the years in various competitions -will Gavin be able to work his magic on Iolo?

Shân will be in her element as she visits the local fire station in Pontypridd. She will be chatting to Gavin, and learning about a day in the life of a fire officer in Pontypridd, and then under Andrew's instruction, Shân will join the men as they partake in some training. Will Shân be fit for the job?
