Presenters and Pundits - Q&A

When did you start playing golf?
I've played golf since a very early age. My father played - and still does so three times a week! I remember learning how to play at Porthllechog Golf Club on Anglesey with a bunch of friends from school - one of them now lives in Lincoln and is a Course Marshall at this year's Ryder Cup. Hopefully, I'll get to catch up with him at the Celtic Manor.
-
What do you like about the sport?
Every game of golf is different - every course sets a different challenge, the position of the hole changes regularly and the unpredictable weather all add to the excitement of the game. Not only do you have to play against the course but you must play against yourself. I do think that golf is one of the most difficult sports around. In snooker, the table is the same size. In Darts, the numbers are always in the same place. You need to have the right temperament to play golf - I've seen more than one person lose clubs as well as golf balls!
-
Where do you play now?
I'm a member of Creigiau Golf Club, on the outskirts of Cardiff. I have a great interest in golf but I don't get the chance to play as much as I'd like!
-
What is your handicap?
18
-
Who are your golfing heroes?
As a youngster, Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson and Seve Ballesteros were the favourites. Ian Woosnam is a hero too - winning the Masters in August was a great achievement and he's contributed greatly to the Ryder Cup as a player and a winning captain.
-
Which players are you looking forward to seeing at the Ryder Cup?
Rory McIlroy - the 21 year old from Northern Ireland. At the moment he's got a lot of self confidence, is playing well and is high in the world rankings. Psychologically, McIlroy is in a good place within his golf. Hopefully, I'll get the chance to watch him play live over the weekend.
-
Who will win the 2010 Ryder Cup?
There has been a lot of speculation about Europe winning the competition easily but you can never rule out the Americans. It will be really close and I suspect that it will be late on the final day until we see the winners announced.

What is your handicap?
12 - but unfortunately I can only play from time to time. Saying that, I'm prepared to play anytime anywhere - I've constantly got a set of clubs in the boot of the car all the time - just in case!
-
Who are your golfing heroes?
Seve Ballesteros and Nick Faldo were personal heroes of mine growing up and I remember meeting Faldo at the Open Championship one year when I was on the same table as them having lunch. Faldo was there with Bernhard Langer - what an experience!
When talking about golfing heroes, we can't let Tiger Woods go by without a mention. Not only is Tiger a golfing hero, but he's a hero in all sports. He single handedly changed the game completely by raising the bar - with others following his example and increasing the standards in golf. His contribution and achievement within the game must be applauded.
-
So you were happy to see Tiger included in the American team?
The news that all Ryder Cup fans - and Welsh fans - wanted to hear was Tiger's inclusion in the team. That's what everyone has been expecting ever since the competition was announced back in 2001. The chance to watch him live will be great - I've been fortunate myself to follow him in numerous competitions during the years.
-
Who will win the 2010 Ryder Cup?
I'm really not sure. Europe have been praising the strength of their squad but you can't rule out the Americans. Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Bubba Watson can all hit the ball further than anyone else - a great advantage for the visitors. The tension and excitement will be seen and felt until the very last hole I think.

When did your interest in golf tee off?
When I was younger, we lived next door to a golf club in Llantrisant and every summer, I'd climb over the fence and have a round of golf with my brother, Gareth. Gareth is a professional golfer now too.
-
What is your favourite golf course in Wales?
Montgomery golf club and Harlech are two of my favourites. Harlech is an incredibly difficult challenge with the changing weather from the sea.
-
Is the Twenty Ten course at the Celtic Manor any good?
I've been very fortunate to play the Twenty Ten course at the Celtic Manor on a number of occasions and it is special - yet challenging. I do suspect that the course will be longer during the Ryder Cup weekend because the autumn is sure to bring some poor weather. An extra challenge for Corey Pavin's Americans.
-
In what way will Wales benefit from hosting the Ryder Cup?
The local economy and the Welsh economy will benefit without a doubt, especially with tourists flocking to Newport and Cardiff. Golf in Wales has already seen an improvement with extra interest coming from young people and women. And when people watch the event unfold on TV, they will see how spectacular Wales is.
-
Do you think Montgomerie will be a good captain?
Monty has shown that he is the perfect selection for captain. He knows how the Ryder Cup works because he's played in the teams over the past ten years or more, so it will be interesting to see who wins with their tactics - Monty or Corey Pavin.
Whoever plays, I think it will go down to the wire and the last few holes will have a lot at stake. It's a recipe for drama and excitement for viewers at home.

Why do you like golf?
It's easy to spell.
-
What's your handicap?
Rhiannon (the wife!)
-
Which is your favourite course in Wales?
The "Augusta" from the bar of the Penllwyndu pub outside Tresaith.
-
Who's your golfing hero?
Emyr Wyn. Because he's got a cheek using such a funny swing.
-
Anyone else in the family like golf?
No. Maybe Cyril the goldfish watches it sometimes - he's always very still staring out of the bowl when the golf is on telly.
-
Who's going to win the Ryder Cup 2010?
Man U. Either Europe or America.

Why do you like golf?
I've been a fan of golf for a long time. Golf was always on television at home, so I've followed the sport since I was little. It's full of tension and excitement and holds my interest. It's a game that people of all ages can enjoy playing and watching.
-
Which is your favourite course in Wales?
We're very lucky to have so many amazing courses throughout all of Wales, but if I had to choose one, it would be Harlech because of the location. The views of the Castle from the course are stunning. Saying that, I should have picked Brynhill in Barry, my local club. Mum's the captain next year as well!
-
Who's your golfing hero?
Since I started presenting Golffio I've met a lot of the world's top players. I enjoy watching Miguel Àngel Jimenez because he looks so cool walking around the course. But for the playing, there's no-one quite like Tiger Woods.
-
Anyone else in the family like golf?
All my family like the game and play it to a high standard. My parents, husband Huw and brother Tomos are keen players, and my cousin Kyron Sullivan is a professional player.
-
Who's going to win the Ryder Cup 2010?
Europe, definitely. This year, we've got a team of strong, experienced players, some of the best in the world. Under Monty's captaincy, there's no reason why we can't keep the Cup right here in Wales.
