What would be your worst fashion nightmare?
Do you know what has always bothered me? Every time I’m at an airport and I stand there waiting for my bag to come around on the carousel, I’m always frightened that it won’t appear; now that would be the end of the world for me. You invest so much in them, not only money but also time and effort – I’d be gutted if I lost them. Like every other girl I love shopping and when I was a child I used to love dressing up in my mother’s clothes and high heels. But clothes and shopping do tend to remind me of work these days.
Do you like shopping with a stylist?
Yes. Over the years I’ve been with a few stylists, it’s just like shopping with a friend because you get to know some better than others. Some of the stylist know me well and can choose clothes that suit my personality a little better. But there have been times when a stylist has told me, “we want you to wear this”, and I thought, oh no! And I’ve been in the changing rooms in tears thinking that I looked awful. But most of the time we tend to reach a compromise and the stylist and I understand each other. However shopping with a stylist does make you try styles that otherwise you would never dream of trying.
How would you describe your style?
To be honest I’m not too sure what my own personal style is by now. I’ve always been a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl. But in the last ten years, since people have started to intervene I’ve become a little more experimental. These days I like old, vintage clothes. Some of my favourite dresses are old! There’s one in particular from the 1940s that’s very pretty. And that’s something new to me in the past two years. Now I enjoy browsing in markets and vintage shops and I can do it for hours!
Which one’s your favourite dress?
This one. I love the colour because it’s bright and the beadwork’s amazing. I love sparkly things!
Have you ever worn this dress because it still has the label on it?
Yes I have worn it. I have this habit of leaving the labels on my clothes just in case I need to return them, but I think it’s a little late now! It was quite an expensive dress and I thought that I could get away with wearing it once and then returning it. I wore it for the Jones concert that was shown on S4C. At the after party Grace Jones came up to me and asked me to take off the dress so that she could try it on. But have you seen her? She’s tall and large – she would’ve ripped it!
Have you got any clothes that you hate?
Right then, you tell me how many other clothes have you seen with reindeer on them? I bought this for £8 from a cheap shop in town. But I only bought it because I thought that it’s not often you see clothes with reindeer on them for Christmas! Although I have worn it a few times even though it still has its label!
Something else I hate are these flashy pair of yellow trousers. I bought these for a children’s television show because they were bright, and we love bright clothes in children’s TV, but I think these went a step too far! I not only had these yellow trousers on but I also had some dark fake tan on. So the whole effect was very dramatic but for all the wrong reasons.
This is very different!
This jumpsuit is the worst thing in my wardrobe! I’ve never worn it and never will. A stylist bought it for me and you should have seen my face! This is the only thing that I’ve refused to wear; I could never leave the apartment wearing this!
Are you sentimental about your clothes?
Yes, but only with a few things. If I’ve found something I love, like these cowboy boots that I’ve had for over ten years. They’ve been mended by the cobbler at least ten times because I’ve worn them so much. But they’re nice and comfortable, they go with everything and I can walk for miles in them. I can never throw them away so they’ll just keep going back to the cobblers! Clothes are very important to me, you walk miles to find them and I don’t know what I would do without them!
