How many wardrobes do you have?

Too many probably. I've loved clothes since I was a child. Mum always used to look smart and she taught me how to make my own clothes. When I was about ten or twelve she taught me how to cut out patterns, choose colours and fabrics and how to combine it all to make a complete garment.

From where do you get your patterns?

I used to love Vogue patterns; I have a few dresses that have been made with Vogue patterns. I sometimes use the same pattern five or six times.

Has following fashion always been important to you?

Yes. I would rather die than wear something that wasn't fashionable, I may keep it, but I'd never wear it. I have a variety of hats and I used to wear them to go to Chapel, but the only thing with a hat is that it ruins your hairstyle. But a hat can finish off an outfit, there's no doubt about that.

Why the interest in scarves?

I have a lot of scarves, probably too many. My friends all know that come Christmas or my birthday I love to receive scarves. I'm fortunate enough have them in every colour, enough to go with every outfit.

What kind of clothes do you have?

I have a variety of things including a lot of shoulder-pads! I sometimes wear shoulder-pads to bring my shoulders into proportion with the rest of me. This is my favourite; it's an useful jacket because I can wear it with black and every other colour that's on it. I like it because it's summery and I love patterns and flowers.

What's the story behind this outfit?

This is a jumpsuit, and it was fashionable about fifteen years ago. It's lined and has a black patent belt which you can pull the top over. But you do need a little patience when you go to the bathroom. It's my favourite and it's very comfortable, I could never throw this away.

Do you follow anyone's style in particular?

I think I have my own style. I don't worry about what other people wear. I always like to look smart and I love clothes, whether it's ones that I have made myself or ones that I've bought, they're all important, they're all a part of me.
