Bethan Roberts from Llangrannog has always loved clothes, ever since she can remember - although it hasn't always been easy on a teacher's salary!

Where do you think all this started? Who were your inspirations?

I remember going up to my aunt's loft, she was fashionable, wearing high heels. But I was lucky that my mother was a seamstress and my dad was on the sea. He would bring lovely material from various places such as Japan and China, and my mum then would make lovely dresses for me.

My dad got caught right at the start of the Second World War, but they weren't able to put them in prison and my dad had to walk across to Sweden in strong snow. He was there for two years, but he was lucky they were on a farm. They breeded silver foxes. My dad brought one of these silver foxes home for my mum as a present. And if you had a silver fox, well this was fashion!

What about your clothes? What will I see when I open your wardrobe?

Clothes that don't really fit me, but I'm very fond of them; I could never get rid of them. This is a dress from the 70s. I was a teacher in Glan Tâf for years and right at the beginning there was a ceremony, Alan Guy was organising it. I had to have a nice dress because I was presenting the ceremony.

Were you worried about spending on your clothes?

Oh yes, I had to be careful on a teacher's salary. But after I had married I had my own little account, and I didn't feel guilty. If I had to spend a little on clothes no-one need know. My wardrobe is full of clothes. I like buying clothes because it makes me feel happy, it raises my spirits.
