Buddug Jones is a woman with clothes from every decade.

Buddug Jones

What do clothes mean to you?

They belong to me and I feel they are valuable to the children, especially the girls. They love wearing my clothes from the 50s, 60s and 70s.

Buddug Jones

Does any particular period stand out to you?

I think that the 60s stands out as one of the happiest because it was also the period when Mary Quant was around. She came on the scene around 1966, and of course she was one of the ones who introduced the trendy look. You had to have a skirt that was about six or seven inches above the knee!

Buddug Jones

When you were living in London, did you love being surrounded by fabulous shops?

They were fantastic. I worked in London for five years in the bank in Drapers Gardens - which was the tallest building in London until the Canary Wharf was built. So it was a happy time. I could go shopping in Oxford Street and Knightsbridge - the clothes there were brilliant!

Buddug Jones

You've got clothes from every period of your life haven't you?

Yes, and I love clothes. This jacket is made of blue velvet with a silk lining. There are little eyelets on here and they're all hand stitched. I think it's from the 80s. It belonged to an aunt of mine, who lived on Bardsey Island for a while, and was married to a minister. We think she had this jacket during her time at Bardsey. I really like the jacket actually, I think it's lovely.

Buddug Jones

Are you sentimental about your clothes, do you keep them all?

There was a time when we moved house, and unfortunately, my mother gave loads of clothes to charity shops. I felt bad that I hadn't kept everything, especially the ones from the 50s. So I haven't got any clothes from the 50s.

Buddug Jones

This purple and green dress could date from before the 50s couldn't it?

I got this from my aunt, and it's made of satin and very pretty - it dates back to the 1940s. But my aunt loved wearing this dress, even in the 60s. So when she asked me if I'd like this dress, it felt like she'd given me a million pounds! I haven't worn the dress at all, it's just something I like looking at.

Buddug Jones

You've got a very flashy pair of hot pants. Have you ever worn these?

Yes, I have worn them! But unfortunately, they won't fit me now because they're a size 8! They come from the early 70s and are very colourful. Even though I can't wear them, I'm glad to say that my daughter fits into them!

Buddug Jones

Is this flowery dress from the 70s as well?

Yes, this dress is from the 70s. I'd been in London for a few years, and my cousin got married. She wanted me to come to the wedding, so I came up from London with my hair especially cut in Vidal Sassoon. When I got my hair cut, I had a mirror in front of me, behind me and either side! You wouldn't believe how short it was - it was half an inch all round. My sister in law made this dress for me, and when I came home to the wedding I was the only one there in a long dress! Of course everyone noticed me. I was separated from my husband at the time, but he saw me in that dress - and he wanted to come back!

Buddug Jones

This yellow suit is very nice. Where did you get it?

I made them to go to my sister in law and my brother in law's wedding - my husband's brother. I made the hat as well, and I finished making it at 3 o'clock in the morning, finishing these little stitches.

Buddug Jones

What's the story behind this smart brown suit?

This was for a Sunday School Festival! I had to have new clothes for the Sunday School Festival and I got this one from Jaeger. If I remember correctly, I think I paid £22. If you bought this today, you'd have to pay around £400 as it's made of wool.

Buddug Jones

Did you get this white dress for a particular event?

This is a special dress that I bought in London in 1974. I was going to a ball and this was a very special time. I've only worn it about six times, but the children think that the dress is very special. There's a slip under it, and that's the slip I had on my wedding day and my sister in law stitched 'good luck' on it, which was nice!
