How would you describe your style?

Sometimes, I want to wear something dramatic because I’m in the mood. So no one can tell what I’ll wear until I arrive! I just want to feel like a different character.

How important are clothes in your life?

Music and fashion are a massive part of my life. I sing in a band called Sal, so I like to wear clothes that make me stand out. I love colour and loads of ‘mad’ things, like big skirts, corsets or rock t-shirts – things that will make me stand out on the stage. I’ve always been a performer, so I’ve been wearing theatrical clothes since I was a child. I started singing as a classical singer. My teacher used to tell me the sort of clothes I should wear, but I didn’t always like what I was given. But now, I sing my own songs, wear what I want to wear, and it’s all to do with my personality. Everything was so sedate when I sang classical – and I am not sedate!

I think this is the most colourful wardrobe I’ve ever seen and this pink dress is fabulous!

I love colour! I saw this in a small boutique in Cardiff, Pussy Galore, and I thought, I have to get that dress, because there’s incredible detail in it – all these frills! The front is quite short, and then it’s very long in the back. The name on the label is cute, Frilly Lilly. The back is like a corset. I like corsets because they pull you in and give you a nice shape, even if you’re feeling bloated! With a lot of my clothes, you think that they’re girly but they’re really girly / raunchy! Two sides of my characters come out – the angel and the devil!

This is an unusual dress, where did you get it?

There’s a story behind this dress. I got this in a shop called Betsey Johnson in San Francisco when I went on a road trip with one of my friends, Sian. I drove the whole way – I don’t know how I did it – from LA to Vegas. These Betsey Johnson shops were popping up everywhere! They were full of really pretty dresses and I wanted one, but they were so expensive! So every time we saw one of the shops we went in and tried the dresses on – they give you shoes to try with the dresses and we both tried them in front of the mirror. In the end I had to get one, so I found this one on sale in San Francisco – brilliant!

Have you worn the dress at all?

After Vegas, we went on to New York and the Sex and the City premiere was on, so we all went to see the film dressed as the characters and then went on to drink cocktails in our dresses. This dress reminds me of that girly trip!

What is the attraction of buying so many dresses?

When I go out shopping, I always think of dresses before anything else because you don’t have to try and put a top and skirt together. I’ve spent so much money on dresses in the past! Sometimes, I’ll only wear them once! So me and my friend Alex are thinking of starting a dress renting business, Cwpwrdd Cudd, or My Secret Wardrobe in English – especially now with the credit crunch – it would be perfect!

This dress is stunning; did you get this for a special occasion?

I’d entered a competition on My Space to write a song for the James Bond audio book. Sebastian Faulks was the author of the book and they were looking for someone to compose a song for the book. So I thought why not give it a go. I wrote the song, and won the competition! The name of the song is ‘Devil May Care’. So I wore this dress in the video for the song.

What do you usually wear when performing with the band?

I like to mix rock tops like this AC/DC t-shirt with lace or netting. To tell you the truth, I’d wear this skirt to go shopping if I was in the mood! I walk down the street in this skirt and people think ‘what is she wearing?’ But I don’t mind, if you’re in the mood, just do it! I just wear clothes and try to have fun with them!
