Christian Trumper has a very individual style and he’s happy enough to search forever until he finds something he likes! Christian works as a TV subtitler and here he is now in front of the camera discussing clothes rather than words.

What's your style?

From day to day, to go to work and things, I wear jeans or cords and shirts. I always wear shirts, even in warm weather and I like to have something around my neck – something quite light or something thick like a pashmina in winter - I’ve got all kinds of different colours.

I do sometimes think people are thinking ‘what on earth is he wearing’. Ok, maybe some of my clothes are a bit loud, but I’ve also got a lot of black in my wardrobe.

If there’s something special going on, I like to wear something a bit different. I don’t really wear suits and ties, I feel uncomfortable in them. You go to some of these events and everyone’s wearing the same thing and I just think it’s a bit boring really. They’re all just wearing the same to look like everyone else. I feel a lot more comfortable wearing something a little bit different to the norm.

Christian is obviously a big leather fan. Yet, not just black leather - turquoise, red leather and then all the long coats – a beautiful classic camel coat in a wonderful material... where did you get this?

I bought this for myself on my birthday! I ordered it from a Next catalogue but the wrong size arrived so I sent it back for another size. I paid for the coat but the money never showed on my account. Sorry Next!

I bought this in Swansea. I thought the colour was so luxurious and it feels great too. And when I picked it up, I realised it was reversible and you can wear either side in black or green.

These two are quite similar styles aren’t they?

These are bargain buys. I got them from EBay. The red one was about £1.50 and this one about £1, something like that. But I had to pay about £20 to export them from China.

I love leather. The first red thing I’ve ever bought I think.

You obviously look after your leather.

I never wear them in the rain. So they’re not really exposed to the Welsh weather.

Do you have any messy clothes, everyday clothes, clothes with holes in them or sporty clothes?

No sports clothes! No way, I couldn’t imagine that! When I was in school, I just stood in the corner and let everyone else run past. I’ve got some old trousers for washing the car!

I always really wanted a convertible. When I take the top off, its like the world opens and it’s lovely. I prefer having the roof off at night, it gives me a buzz.

What about these pashminas then?

This one was my grandfather. I found it in the drawer and I just loved the colours.

One winter I was going to a wedding and wanted a scarf and I saw this one. I loved the colour. It was two-for-£5 in the French Market so I bought these two together. Since then, I’ve bought others. I love their colours and the texture next to my skin.

I have to ask – do you iron your own clothes?

It depends. I iron things myself if mum and dad are away butI don’t even get a chance sometimes because mum loves to iron. She loves watching the rugby and ironing at the same time. So I just keep out of her way when the rugby’s on!

This is dramatic isn’t it?

My friend was getting married over Christmas and my other friend Debbie is great at designing things and she made this for me. I always wanted a black coat, so we discussed it and the original design was for a short coat but she added more material to make it a long coat. A black shirt covered in sequins and a turquoise pashmina to add some colour.

I’ve always loved amber. My friend said, ‘oh amber would really suit you because your energy comes from the stone’. So I went up to Aberystwyth and bought a ring to march. The one on my third finger always matches what’s around my neck.

I work for Wedi 3 and Wedi 7 doing the subtitles so I have to type quickly. It’s easier to take them off than have them get in the way.

I wear clothes depending on how I feel. If I’m feeling down in the dumps, I tend to dress down or wear black for some reason. Black is like a cloak over me if I want to keep out of the way. If I feel like having more fun, I wear colourful clothes.
