Dion owns his own hairdressing salon and sees clothes as just a bit of fun.

Dion Padan

How would you describe your attitude towards clothes?

I don't like to look like everyone else. Because I'm a hairdresser, I like to think that I'm unique in what I wear. I've been in Liverpool for about five years now, and to tell you the truth, the fashion in Liverpool is different to fashion everywhere else. Everyone here is trying to out-do each other. Everyone goes to town when they go out – more so than in anywhere else I think, and the men are just as bad as the women. I own my own salon here and I believe that being a hairdresser is all about image. No one in the shop wears an uniform – everyone wears what they want.

What does your clothes and style say about you?

I think it's very important to dress in a way that reflects your personality. I like to wear colourful clothes and hate wearing dark colours. I like reds and blues and I also like to stand out, but I think that reflects who I am. What you wear shows how you feel and how you want to feel that day.

Your wardrobe is extremely tidy and everything's in order!

My t-shirts are all colour co-ordinated because when I wake up in the morning I decide what colour I want to wear that day. I have a lot of different t-shirts; loads of them have cartoons or logos on them like my Coca-cola one which is quite retro. I have a Mr Incredible t-shirt as well. I did have a glow in the dark Mr Incredible duvet set that I bought in Hong Kong!

What has influenced your style?

I really like 80s clothes. I think that there were a lot of fashion disasters in the 80s, but I also think that there are quite a few things that we can look back on now and think they're cool. If you look back at pop music, bands, fashion, they all come full circle, and I think the 80s are making a comeback at the moment.

You have a lot of colourful trainers; I take it you're a big fan?

I absolutely love trainers and wear them every day, so that's why I have so many pairs. I had one pair especially made for me at Nike Town in London. You can design your own trainers, decide on the colours and they even have my name on the side, then they send them to you in the post. I also have this ‘thing' about Reebok Pump trainers – I have three pairs, one of them are a pair of Miami Vice special editions!

Have you always been interested in fashion?

Fashion and the way men look after themselves has changed dramatically over the past ten years. Women have been doing it for years, but now men have also started to feel the pressure to look good. If you look at designers today, they focus much more on men than they used to and you have people like Louis Vuitton who designs bags for men. Everyone's discovered that there's a new market out there and are now really pushing it.

Dion Padan

Do you think your style will change over the next few years?

At the moment I'm very happy with the way I look – my body and the way I dress. But I have noticed that when I go shopping that I do tend to go for more classic stuff now, for clothes that'll last.

Dion Padan

You have a lot of designer bags here, are they really designer or are they fake?

No, they aren't fakes at all; they've cost me a fortune! They're my one bag a year treat! The Fendi weekend bag is my most recent purchase which I bought last Christmas and I love it. But I do have a Louis Vuitton bag that I love even more. I bought it in Milan and I had to buy it then because it's a part of a limited collection and isn't in the ongoing collection. I love it, but it did cost me over a £1,000!

Dion Padan

Where do you like to go shopping?

There are a lot of great vintage shops in Liverpool but I also like going to Camden and places like that. Most of my shirts have come from second hand shops and I have a few really nice ones like a cowboy one and the one I'm wearing now which was my dads. It's about 40 years old and I love it – it's Fred from Homepride!

These red and white jeans are very unusual, where did you get these from?

These are Gucci Jeans that I bought about six years ago, but I don't wear them anymore. I think they were about £180 when I bought them which wasn't too bad. I think I've worn them about six times!

Dion Padan

Do you think that you're now at a place where you're happy and confident with the way you look?

Yes I think so, because how I dress isn't that expensive to maintain as I get most of my clothes from second hand and vintage shops. But then the money I do save I splurge on bags and sunglasses!
