Eirwen Williams's house is full of clothes collected since the begining of the 60s.

Eirwen: I'm not a shopaholic or anything like that. I just usually buy clothes for special occassions. To tell the truth, I'm a bit of a show off, a bit too showy sometimes. I believe that wearing certain clothes changes your character so much.

Nia: What was your work and how did that affect what you wore?

Eirwen: I was a nursery assistant but before that I used to work in a hospital. When I used to wear a white coat, it completely changed my character. You'd think I was a doctor. I was a completely different person when I wore the coat.

Nia: When did you start taking an interest in clothes?

Eirwen: After I decided to keep my wedding dress. My dress was extra special because it was a short, ballerina style dress which was completely unusual at the time. I'm sure I turned a few heads then by wearing that particular style. When I look at the dress today, happy memories flood back.

Nia: Do you know what my favourite colour is?...Pink! This is an amazing pink dress!

Eirwen: I enjoyed wearing this one but I've only wore the dress once for a special occassion. I've tried it in front of a mirror afterwards just to see if it still fits! I'd never get rid of this one.

Eirwen: We had an invite to a party in BMW, Llandudno Junction as they were launching a new car there. The guest was Miss Wales at the time. Having boasted to my friends that she was going to be there, I found out by watching the news that she'd been in trouble with the police in Colwyn Bay the previous night! This is what I wore on the night and I've kept the outfit for 30 years.

Eirwen: I wore my hair down when I wore this ra-ra dress which is completely out of character for me. I never wear my hair down and I haven't done since that occassion.

Nia: Are you a practical person? Are you happy to pass on your clothes to someone else?

Eirwen: Yes. I pass my clothes onto my sister. She phones me sometimes and says something like "I wore that red jumper today and people were saying how good I looked." But, I don't want to hear that or I'll want the clothes back! I also recycle clothes sometimes. My niece wanted a Batman cloak once, so I cut an old red dress up and made a cloke with the material.

Nia: Do your clothes bring back memories?

Eirwen: It's the same as when you listen to a certain kind of music - it might take you back to a certain era or place. My clothes have the same effect and I'm really glad that I've kept them all because they bring back fond memories.
