How did you start wearing fair trade clothing?

I first heard about fair trade when I was six years old, and I've spoken to a lot of people about fair trade clothes since then. I've realized how important it is to do something important for people who can't do it for themselves. And also, a lot of the fair trade clothes use materials which are good for the environment. I feel that I'm doing something good for society by buying fair trade and shopping in charity shops.

Do you think there's a lot of pressure on young people today, to look a certain way?

Sometimes if you don't dress the same as other people, or if you don't follow the fashions that are in the high street and in magazines, you can get teased by those who do follow it.

Has that happened to you personally?

Yes, once or twice in school. Children calling me a 'goth' if I wore black clothes, or 'hippy' if I wore colourful items.

How do you, in the centre of Bethesda, go about finding fair trade clothes?

Fair trade has become much more popular these days, and in fact a new shop has just opened right here in Bethesda. That's where I got this top. But I also visit a lot of websites, and I get clothes from different festivals. This dress for example, is one my mum got for me in Glastonbury.

Emily on dresses...

I bought this dress for about £3 in Oxfam, whereas this silk dress has been recycled from another dress with a different pattern. We think we're a civilized society, but there's still something that's fundamentally wrong in society. There isn't any equality, and I think we should try to change that.

Emily on fashion...

At the end of the day everybody follows one fashion or another. I'm happy that I've chosen this one.
